Without fail, when I ask a client if they have questions prior to our session they ask, "What do we wear?!"

We see these dreamy inspirational photos on Pinterest and Instagram and suddenly visions of your own portraits start to decorate your walls. For this reason it becomes easy to overthink this part and add undue stress to your plate. From this moment forward you are not allowed to be stressed about our session!

With a little planning, your vision can come to life! By now you may have picked up on my bright and airy style. So, I put together a few Spring and Summer style guides that will enhance how I edit your photos.

Here are a couple of things to consider when choosing the right outfit for each person:

  • Find outfits that complement each other. Matching is okay for littles but variety gives each person their own look.
  • Save bold patterns for wallpaper! Textures or soft patterns photograph beautifully. Intense patterns detract from the stars of the photos.
  • If you find the perfect print, opt for only one person to wear it. Too many prints is too much for the eyes.
  • Avoid bright, intense, or dark colors.
  • Shoes! Often an afterthought but, if you wish to wear shoes opt for neutral. They aren't meant to be the focal point. We want them to fade into the portrait with you at the center.

Online shopping happens to be my only mode of dressing myself and my kids. So, I rounded up a list of online stores I love ranging in price inspired by the palettes below:

For Mom

  • Nordstrom
  • Reformation
  • J. Crew
  • Tuckernuck
  • Banana Republic
  • Hill House
  • And an environmental plug for Poshmark! I purchase nearly all of my favorite pieces from here!

For Dad

  • Bonobos
  • J. Crew
  • Banana Republic
  • Zara
  • Faherty

For the Kids

  • Zara
  • H&M
  • Cecil and Lou
  • Beaufort Bonnet Company
  • Crew Cuts
  • Maisonette

If you have any questions about choosing your outfits please reach out prior to our session! I would be happy to coordinate with you so we achieve exactly what you were hoping for!

XOXO
